Irma Stern Museum
Ceramic Conversations Exhibition: Clementina van der Walt & Hennie Meyer
14 Dec. 2010 - 15 Jan. 2011
Douglas & Co Reedveld Server, Reedveld Bookcase and Hunch 106 dining table were
used as furniture for displaying works of Clementina van der Walt and Hennie Meyer at the
Irma Stern Museum in Rosebank, Cape Town, in the upstairs gallery.
The Gallery consists of approximately 45 running metres of exhibition space in three different adjacent galleries.
For the past 6 years, well-known South African ceramists, Clementina van der Walt and Hennie Meyer have been selected to exhibit at Ceramic Art London, an international ceramic expo at the Royal College of Art. This joint exhibition is a reflection of the experience and influences of their annual pilgrimage abroad.
The work of both these artists is very different, but in many ways is driven by the same impetus.
The high quality of international craftsmanship and exploration of form and content, as well as exposure to historical ceramics via the wonderful London museums, has motivated these artists to internalise the awareness acquired through the experience and apply it in the South African context.
This has resulted in what promises to be a varied show - their familiar signature work, and new pieces - with a strong emphasis on utilitarian ceramics.
Both artists have exhibited extensively throughout South Africa, and have work in several public and private collections.
